Overview of Gaven Industries, Inc.

Gaven Industries has been in business for 23 years, having commenced operations in 1984 as a sole proprietorship. It was incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1990. Its corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility are currently located at 6655 North Noah Drive, Saxonburg, Pennsylvania 16056.

Gaven Industries has relocated to our new facility in the suburbs north of Pittsburgh. The new building has 22,500 square feet of manufacturing area, and 10,000 square feet of office space. There is sufficient land at the new site to expand manufacturing space to 120,000 square feet.

Since its founding, the company has specialized in the design, manufacture, and installation of EMI/RFI shielding systems and shielded components. However, it also offers RF testing and consulting services, manufactures and installs linear accelerator doors, and provides lead shielding for large radiology suite construction projects.

Gaven Industries is now doing more than $5 million in sales annually and has 24 regular full-time employees, 20 of whom are engaged in manufacturing and field installation. In order to assure quality installations, our employees install all of our shielded rooms.  During extremely busy periods, we hire and train temporary employees to augment our manufacturing and installation forces.

Gaven Industries is committed to providing top quality products and services at competitive prices. Manufacturing and installation methods and procedures are continually evaluated to identify opportunities to improve methods, products and services.  In testimony to our commitment to quality, Gaven Industries provides warranties on its shielded enclosures that range from 5 years on our galvanized steel and three ounce copper enclosures, to the life of the enclosure on our soldered copper system.  During the period of warranty, should an enclosure fail to maintain the performance levels originally specified due to defects in materials or workmanship, Gaven will provide free of charge all labor and materials necessary to return the enclosure to the original performance specifications.

Markets Served

When it first commenced operations, Gaven focused on radiation and commercial radio frequency (RF) shielding applications. However, as early as 1986, the company designed, manufactured, and installed multiple knife-edge doors and clamp-together shielded enclosures for use by defense contractors. The rooms supported DOD contract activities and had to meet NSA standards.

The volume and scope of work done for defense contractors and agencies of the federal government grew substantially over the years, and Gaven Industries became fully committed to serving both the commercial and government market sectors.

In serving the commercial market, the company designs, manufactures, and installs RF shielding (and magnetic shielding when required) for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) rooms at hospitals and medical clinics. Gaven Industries has been designated an approved shielding vendor by virtually all the major MRI magnet manufacturers (i.e., Fonar, GE, Hitachi, Phillips, Siemens, Toshiba, etc.). The company also engages in the repair and modification of existing MRI rooms and in the provision and installation of lead (radiation) shielding.

In addition to providing EMI/RFI shielding for clinical magnets used in MRI rooms, Gaven has designed, manufactured, and installed shielding for research magnets in use at several major universities.  Research magnets typically require a higher performance shield than do clinical magnets.

In serving the government market sector, Gaven designs, manufactures, and installs high performance shielding systems employing TI-Shield™, a composite shielding material developed by Texas Instruments, Inc. Gaven developed the methods and procedures for the fabrication and installation of TI-Shield panels and pioneered their use in high performance shielding systems. Gaven Industries also designs, manufactures, and installs special components used in these systems. The systems offer high end, broadband RF shielding performance that exceeds industry standards. Gaven’s other shielding products also are suitable for use in government applications where a lower performance shield is required.
